Herb Tinctures To The Rescue!
So you may be asking. What is a tincture? They are small dropper bottles of highly potent medicines. When it comes to herbs, tinctures offer numerous benefits when compared to capsules and teas. Easy to transport and simpler than brewing a tea, tinctures are perfect rescue remedy.
Note that two droppersful of tincture equal 8 oz. cup of tea. Because they are concentrated, tinctures should be administered sparingly and carefully. The recommended dosage for adults is two droppersful 2 to 3 times per day.
Different Ways to Use Tinctures
Tinctures are very potent and usually diluted in warm water or juice. Alcohol is the primary solvent in most tinctures, but they can also be made with apple cider vinegar and vegetable glycerin. These are preferred for children under 12 and individuals who are sensitive to alcohol.
#1 Directly Under the Tongue
The best way to use tinctures is by taking the drops directly under your tongue. This allows the herbs to enter your bloodstream immediately. For best results, avoid any foods or liquids at least fifteen minutes afterward.
#2 Dilute with Water or Juice
Another method is to dilute the tincture in a small amount of juice or water. It may be flavored with honey or lemon to cover the strong taste.
#3 Put into a Cup of Hot Water
Alternatively, you can add droppersful of tincture into a cup of hot water to have an instant cup of tea. Make sure that you heat the water first before putting the herbs. Heating the tincture in a microwave can weaken or destroy its medicinal properties.
#4 Evaporate the Alcohol
In some cases, the alcohol can be evaporated first before taking the extract. This is advised when it comes to the use of tincture by children, babies, and the elderly. Those who are sensitive to alcohol can follow this method as well.
- In a small pan, add 200 ml of water and bring it to boil.
- Remove from heat and add tinctures to the hot water.
- Let it sit for about 15 minutes to allow the alcohol evaporate.
- Pour the solution into a cup and enjoy it!
#5 Blend Tinctures Together
If you need to take different extracts or tinctures at a time, it is safe to mix them. Transfer the mixture into a cup or bottle and sip.
To improve digestion, consider taking dandelion root. You can also try nettle leaf to cure allergies, and holy basil to treat stress, anxiety, and sleep problems.
Echinacea on the other hand, is a natural anti-inflammatory agent and an immunity booster that can fight various infections.
Final Piece of Wisdom
One of the best features of tinctures is their ability to be delivered throughout the body more quickly than other methods. The alcohol present in the tincture allows the herbs to be absorbed and to start to take effect faster. This is important when treating acute health conditions, such as anxiety and pain, when immediate relief is needed.
