12 Ayurvedic Tips to Lose Weight

How To Lose Weight Through Natural Foods

In Ayurveda, it is mentioned that there are 8 types of bodies that are usually considered unhealthy. Out of these 8 types, either barely or overly fat bodies, which are also known as anorexia or obese bodies, are most susceptible to disease.

A common cause of anorexia or obesity is the rules of eating not being followed. Irregular eating habits such as overeating or improper mixing of food should ideally be rectified.

In addition, there are some natural foods and basic tips you can follow to aid your weight loss efforts.

Tips to lose weight with Ayurvedic principles

1. Balanced meals with proper gaps

Eat three balanced meals with proper gaps with little or no snacking in between to ensure that your digestive fire is adequately stoked with no over-stimulation.

2. Include a Kapha-pacifying diet

Since an aggravated Kapha can lead to weight gain, it is essential to include diet that helps in pacifying this dosha. This diet generally means foods that are warm, dry, rough, light, and digestible.

3. Have light dinner

Have an early dinner that is light so that food is digested before sleeping and natural body detoxification can happen at night.

4. Include herbal tea or warm water

Sip on warm water or herbal tea anytime during the day to clear out excess Ama (toxins) from the system for proper metabolism.

5. Moderate exercise & proper sleep

Maintain a regular schedule of light to moderate exercise every day along with a proper sleeping schedule (As per Ayurveda, the ideal sleep time should be 10 pm to 6 am).

6. Include Ayurvedic herbs

There are a number of herbs like Triphala, aloe, erandmool, Guduchi (giloy), garcinia, etc. which you can use to improve your digestive system, removing toxins, and increasing your metabolism to keep the extra weight away.

7. Eat at the right time and in small portions

Smaller meals at regular intervals of 4 to 5 hours will keep your metabolism high and prevent your body from converting the food straight into fat. Measure the portions of your food at every meal, and make sure that the portions are consistent and small. For example, one portion of cereal should be approximately equivalent to what fits in your fist.

8. Use Apple Cider Vinegar

A popular way to aid weight loss these days is using Apple Cider Vinegar. The best way to use apple cider vinegar in your diet is to consume 1–2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) per day, mixed with water. Spread this out into 2–3 doses throughout the day. It is suggested to drink this mixture is before a meal, preferably the main ones.

9. Eat more green vegetables

A common home remedy for weight loss is feasting on low-calorie green vegetables such as Cabbage and Karela (Bitter Gourd). Cabbage is considered to be an effective remedy for losing weight as it inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat. Karela is a bitter variety of drumsticks that beats the fat out of the body. Try to use spices such as dry ginger, cinnamon, black pepper etc. to dress up your dishes as they are very good for losing weight too.

10. Foods to avoid

Stay away from excessively salty foods or very high quantities of fatty ones such as cheese and butter. Ensure that you also refrain from large portions of high carbohydrate foods like rice, bread and potato. In cereals, wheat cereals, flavored quinoa and granola or oats are a good replacement for breakfast dishes.

11. Include garcinia in your diet

Besides being an option to aid weight loss, the garcinia fruit is also very beneficial for other purposes. Its dried skin is used as a flavoring agent to replace tamarind/lemon in Indian delicacies and also as a drug that relieves flatulence. It has vitamins and minerals for promoting better bone health. Garcinia can be consumed in capsule form or it is also available as an ingredient in herbal juices such as Aloe Vera Garcinia Juice or Apple Cider Vinegar Garcinia.

12. Stay hydrated

There is actually some merit to the claim that drinking water can help with weight loss. Drinking 0.5 litres of water may increase the calories you burn by 24–30% for an hour afterward*. Drinking water before meals may also lead to reduced calorie intake, especially for middle-aged and older people.

Water is particularly great for weight loss when it replaces other beverages that are high in calories and sugar. Next time you feel like reaching for a sugary drink, have a couple of glasses of water instead!

In general, it is vital that instead of just focusing on weight loss, your primary goal should be to nourish yourself with healthy food and essential nutrients. A better lifestyle and desired weight levels will automatically follow.

At Kapiva, we work towards bringing pure Ayurvedic herbs into products that are easy to consume, some of which are highly beneficial for weight loss such as:

1.    Garcinia + Slimming Capsule

If your goal is to lose weight and you need a little help. There is no better way than to take both Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean Extract to compliment your diet and/or exercising routine. Garcinia and Green Coffee Beans are the major components of the product.

Garcinia boosts metabolic rate, which in turn helps you burn calories. It increases your serotonin levels which creates a positive effect on your mood, appetite, and sleep. Finally, it curbs your food cravings, helps you to pick healthier food choices- a true appetite suppressant.

While Green Coffee Bean Extract comes from unroasted coffee beans, the active ingredient here is chlorogenic acid and this more than anything other is responsible for burning fat in your body. Chlorogenic acid works by slowing the amount of glucose that your liver puts in your bloodstream.

2. Get Slim Juice & Garcinia Capsules

With ingredients like Harad, San Beej, Arand Mool, Daru Haridra, Stevia Leaves, Beheda & Amla. These individually, help in increasing your metabolism, reduce fat content in the body, thereby making it leaner, cure you of digestion problems and ensures smooth functioning of the digestive system for effective weight loss & finally, purifies blood and prevents skin diseases.
